Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State, has officially declared his intention to run for the presidency in the 2027 general elections.
In a move that has sent shockwaves through the Nigerian political landscape, the Governor announced that he will be seeking the nation’s highest office under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The declaration took place during a massive political rally at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan. Addressing a sea of supporters and party loyalists, Makinde positioned himself as a candidate ready to offer a fresh direction for the country.
“I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, Excellency, announce my candidacy for the position of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the Governor declared to the cheering crowd.
Before this formal announcement, Makinde had been a central figure in a major internal restructuring within the state’s political circle.
He led the Taminu Turaki-aligned faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State to sign a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the APM.
This alliance is designed to create a formidable front against the ruling party in the upcoming 2027 polls.
The terms of the agreement state that all candidates from the Makinde-led PDP faction will now contest for their respective seats on the APM ticket. This directive applies to those seeking seats in the Senate, the House of Representatives, and the State House of Assembly.
