— Flags off construction of Otukpo-Obi-Oju road on Friday

The senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Comrade Abba Patrick Moro PhD on Wednesday played host to several groups in his National Assembly office.

The Omi Ny’Igede Development Association, Abuja Branch, which represents Igede people residing in Abuja was the first to be received after plenary.

Speaking on behalf of the group, the leader, Jerry Edube said Senator Moro’s tenure had been a beacon of hope for Igede people and the entire Benue South. He commended the senator for his impactful projects in Igede land especially the ongoing electrification of Uwokwu community in Oju, the Adenu Healthcare Center in Oju, the ongoing construction of Oru bridge, transformer installation in some communities, his on-the-spot visit during the Ukpete-Bonta crisis and others.

Edube appealed to the senator to ensure completion of all the ongoing projects according to specifications and pleaded with him to remember the group and entire Igede nation in his empowerment programs, employment opportunities and the construction of Otukpo-Obi-Oju to ease the pains of the people.

In his response, Senator Moro thanked the group for the visit. He said the visit and kind words were encouraging. On the Uwokwu electrification project, the senator expressed regret with the activities of a community that’s bent on frustrating the project and appealed to the group to talk to their people at home to allow contractors do their jobs.

On the healthcare center at Adenu, he said apart from that and the one he’s currently constructing in Obi, he had undertaken to reconstruct a burnt healthcare in Oju. He assured that all the healthcare centers will be fully equipped and become operational in 2025.

On Oru bridge, the senator said it would be captured in the 2025 budget for its completion. He said he had no reason to do any shabby job anywhere, stating that the engineer underestimated the span of the bridge.

On Obonto-Ukpete crisis, Senator Moro said it was a sad commentary. He announced that he was planning a football tournament between the warring parties, to foster peace and unity. He said he had written to the governor immediately after his visit to the troubled area on the need for him to end the crisis but had not seen any visible and deliberate effort by the state government to put an end to the crisis.

On the Otukpo-Obi-Oju federal road, Senator Moro said he had tried all he could to get the attention of the federal government to fix it but that all efforts proved abortive. He announced that through the instrumentality of his constituency projects, he was able to insert the project in the 2024 budget, stating that the flag-off for the construction of the road would come up on Friday. He expressed optimism that before 2027, the road would be completed as he has taken it upon himself to achieve that feat so as to feel fulfilled, being a promise he has made to his people.

Senator Moro solicited the prayers of all constituents so he can continue to deliver on his campaign promises to them. He said he came into politics to make a difference, and not for any personal gain, and assured that he would continue to make the difference.

Highlight of the visit was the presentation of award to the senator and his decoration with Igede traditional attires.

In the same vein, the senator received members of National Association of Local Government of Nigeria Emeritus (NALGON).

The National Chairman, Hon. Shaba Ibrahim, said the visit was to inform the senator, being a former council chairman, of the forum and to formally present his membership card to him. Hon. Shaba said as former elected council chairmen, they came together to add their own quota to the development of the country and solicited the support of all Nigerians with capacity and willingness to partner with them.

Senator Moro, in his response thanked the group for the visit. He said he accepted the proposition of the group to partner with them and host the inauguration of their Board of Trustees coming up in Abuja.

The senator assured them of his full support, for them to be effective.

Members of the delegation included the National Chairman, Hon. Shaba Ibrahim; The National Secretary, Chief Hon. Osita Ogene; The Director General, Hon. George Ali; The National Treasurer, Hon. Mton Isaac T., and the North Central Zonal Chairman, Hon. Abubarkar Sadiq Ahmed.

The senator thanked them for the visit and award l, and said he would continue to serve humanity.
