โThe Senate Committee on Finance has issued a warrant of arrest against the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, over his alleged repeated refusal to honour invitations to appear before the committee.
โ
โThe warrant was issued on Thursday during a budget defence session involving the Federal Ministry of Finance and its agencies.
โ
โChairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa, accused the CAC boss of serially disregarding legislative summons and failing to account for issues relating to the commissionโs revenue.
โ
โโThe Registrar General has on so many occasions refused to honour invitations and summons by this committee,โ Musa said.
โ
โHe further alleged that the committee had unresolved concerns regarding the reconciliation of CAC revenues.
โ
โโWe have issues with the reconciliation of the revenue of the CAC, but each time we summoned him, he would send a junior officer,โ the chairman stated.
โ
โThe matter was first raised by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who urged the committee to recommend Magajiโs removal from office to President Bola Tinubu.
โ
โKalu argued that failure to comply with legislative oversight undermines accountability and the authority of the National Assembly.
โ
โAnother member of the committee, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, proposed that no budgetary allocation should be approved for the CAC in the 2026 Appropriation Act until the Registrar-General personally appears before the lawmakers.
โ
โOshiomhole also recommended that the commission be restrained from spending its internally generated revenue without prior approval from the National Assembly.
โ
โThe committee subsequently endorsed the proposal to restrict the CACโs access to its internally generated funds pending compliance.
โ
โThe development underscores growing tension between the legislative arm and key government agencies over issues of financial accountability and compliance with oversight functions.
โ
โFurther reactions from the CAC were not immediately available at the time of filing this report.
