Return of Petrol Subsidy: Reps Moves to Sack Kyari – Investigation

Some members of the House of Representatives have held a crucial meeting in Abuja that may culminate in the sack of the group chief executive officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, (NNPCL), Mele Kyari.

Sources familiar with the proceedings of the meeting told our correspondent that the move by the lawmakers to perfect Kyari’s sack is not unconnected with the surreptitious return of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), better known as petrol.

Investigation revealed that the meeting of 52 members of the House of Representatives was held at a private residence in Maitama to discuss the return of petrol subsidy, long queues at filling stations, and the state of the nation’s economy.

The group which had both pro-Nationalists in the House of Representatives such as Chief Philip Agbese, Ikenga Ugochinyere , Peter Ankpanke, and others has opened an interface with some civil society groups.

When contacted, Agbese, who is the Vice Chairman of House Committee on Media and Publicity declined specific comments on the meeting.

He however said, “Nigerians are passing through tough times and every meeting or discussion that would help to promote good governance should be encouraged.”

Efforts to get comments from the other members who attended the meeting were unsuccessful as they expressed the preference that Nigerians hear from them on the floor of the House.
