Sources say that leaders and key stakeholders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are intensifying efforts to bring former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi back into the party.
A source stated that PDP leaders are working to forge a Jonathan-Obi alliance.
According to the informant, the opposition plans to field either Jonathan or Obi as the partyโs presidential candidate, with the other heading the campaign in either the South East or South-South, depending on who is chosen.
โFor example, if Jonathan becomes the presidential candidate, Obi would lead his campaign in the South East.
โConversely, if Obi flies the partyโs flag, Jonathan would be persuaded to lead the campaign in the South-South,โ the source explained.
โOur leaders are working hard to ensure that these two influential politicians stay in the PDP and work together to secure victory.
โThe focus is on the revival and survival of the party beyond 2027.
โItโs clear that the PDP cannot make significant progress in the 2027 presidential election if Jonathan and Obi end up on opposing platforms,โ the source added.
Former Jigawa State Governor and long-serving PDP leader, Alhaji Sule Lamido, confirmed the strategic moves in an interview with the BBC on Wednesday.
