The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike; Ayodele Fayose, former governor of Ekiti State; Samuel Anyanwu, former secretary of the party and others.
Chief Olabode George, former National Vice Chairman of the party (South) moved the motion for the expulsion at the ongoing convention in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
Hon Samaila Burga, Chairman of the PDP in Bauchi, seconded the motion.
Others expelled are the party’s National Legal Adviser, Adeyemi Ajibade SAN, Umar Bature, AbdulRahman Mohammed, Mao Chuambuwa, George Turner, Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Ammah and Dan Orbih.
The Wike-backed PDP faction rejected the Ibadan convention even after the main party secured a court judgment allowing it to hold.
Mao Ohabunwa, chairman of the faction’s BoT, insisted the event would not be legally recognised and mocked it, saying anyone going to Ibadan “would just going there to relax” and should “consider it a jamboree.”
He also noted that Anyanwu had already issued a circular postponing the convention, adding:
”We have met as the national working committee of PDP… So, we are not part of the exercise.
”Ibadan is a public place… anyone going there in the name of convention should consider it a jamboree.
We won’t tolerate flagrant abuse of the constitution…”
Acting national chairman Abdulrahman Muhammad also urged delegates nationwide to stay away, saying, ”We are concerned with moving PDP forward, therefore, all delegates across the country should stay away from the Ibadan convention.”
Wike praised his supporters and reaffirmed loyalty to them, insisting his camp would always follow the rule of law. He said, ”I will continue to support you people, I won’t betray you people.”
