ONSA Coordinates Massive Security Operation, Rescues 308 Kidnap Victims in Kwara, Niger

A coordinated security operation led by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has rescued 308 kidnapped victims from captivity in Kwara and Niger states, marking one of Nigeria’s largest same-day hostage recovery missions in recent months.

Security sources told TheRadarNewsNG that the intelligence-led operation was conducted on Wednesday by a joint team comprising personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Department of State Services (DSS), the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) under ONSA, the Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies.

According to the sources, all 308 abducted victims were rescued safely during the operation, underscoring the growing effectiveness of intelligence-driven and inter-agency security operations against kidnapping syndicates.

A breakdown of the rescued victims showed that 163 persons were freed after being abducted from Woro Community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, while another 145 victims were rescued during coordinated operations in Niger State.

The sources said the near-simultaneous rescue missions followed extensive intelligence gathering, meticulous operational planning, and synchronized execution designed to prevent the kidnappers from relocating their captives or evading security operatives.

Although operational details were not disclosed for security reasons, officials said the mission was the culmination of sustained intelligence surveillance and close collaboration among participating agencies operating under a unified command coordinated by ONSA.

The operation highlights Nigeria’s increasing reliance on intelligence fusion, joint operational planning, and inter-agency cooperation to combat kidnapping and other organised crimes, particularly across the North-Central region.

Following the rescue, the victims were evacuated to the Military Medical Facility at Wawa Cantonment in New Bussa Local Government Area of Niger State, where they are receiving medical attention, psychological support, and other humanitarian assistance.

Medical personnel are conducting comprehensive health assessments on the victims, many of whom reportedly spent extended periods in captivity under harsh conditions. Security officials also confirmed that documentation, debriefing, and arrangements for reunification with their families are ongoing after the completion of medical and security procedures.

The sources described the operation as the outcome of sustained coordination rather than a single tactical mission, noting that intelligence collection, strategic planning, and synchronized deployment of security personnel were instrumental in securing the victims’ release without any reported loss of life.

They added that intelligence gathered during the operation would support follow-up missions aimed at identifying, tracking, and dismantling the criminal networks responsible for the abductions while strengthening ongoing efforts to enhance national security through improved inter-agency collaboration.
