Ogun East APC endorses Abiodun for Senate, snubs Gbenga Daniel

Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun East Senatorial District have on Monday endorsed Governor Dapo Abiodun as their consensus candidate for the 2027 senatorial election.

โ€ŽThe endorsement was announced at a well-attended gathering held at Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu-Ode, bringing together a broad coalition of party leaders and grassroots representatives from across the district.

โ€ŽThe event, according to a statement made available to journalists by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abiodun, Lekan Adeniran, drew members of the Governorโ€™s Advisory Council, former and serving local government chairmen, past and present lawmakers at both state and national levels, councillors from all wards in the district, as well as women and youth leaders.

โ€ŽThe statement stated that those who attended the meeting were councillors across the senatorial district, all ward chairmen and executives; all local government chairmen and executives; serving members of the National Assembly and the State House of Assembly; past members of both the State and National Assembly; and members of the Elders Advisory Council

โ€ŽSpeaking during the meeting, former Ogun East senator, Lekan Mustapha, said the decision was driven by a shared conviction that Governor Abiodun possesses the capacity to represent the district effectively in the Senate.

โ€ŽMustapha said that โ€œParty leaders would formally communicate the endorsement to the governor, including a commitment to purchase his nomination forms for the 2027 election.

โ€ŽWe will put a body together to deliver this message to our Governor that he has been adopted as the consensus candidate.โ€

โ€ŽHe described Abiodun as a leader of strong character and sound intellect, and should therefore be given all the support to be in the Senate in 2027.

โ€ŽIn his remarks, the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, noted that the governorโ€™s track record in governance and party cohesion make him deserving of the Senate seat.

โ€ŽTalabi reportedly said that โ€œThis endorsement is historic and unanimous. It reflects the collective belief that Prince Dapo Abiodun is the right person for the positionโ€.

โ€ŽAlso speaking, House of Representatives member, Femi Ogunbanwo, representing Odogbolu, Ijebu-Ode, and Ijebu North East Federal Constituency, said the governorโ€™s administration has fostered peace and development across the state, expressing confidence that he would attract more dividends of democracy to Ogun East at the national level.

โ€ŽChairman of Sagamu Local Government, Afolabi Odulate, commended the governorโ€™s performance and reiterated the districtโ€™s collective appeal for him to accept the senatorial bid.

โ€Ž

โ€ŽThe event reportedly drew participation from all 103 councillors across the nine local governments in Ogun East, alongside youth leaders and key grassroots mobilisers.

โ€Ž

โ€ŽOther top political leaders at the meeting included Sen Gbenga Kaka, Ogun East APC Chairman Adedoyin Adeleke, and respected party elders such as Kola Ogunjobi, Bayo Dayo, Durojaye, Pegba Otemolu, James Dina, and Osibote Amoran.

โ€Ž

โ€ŽAlso present were Femi Nuberu, the partyโ€™s Publicity Secretary, Adesola Elegbeji, Joseph Adegbesan, and Femi Ogunbanwo โ€” members of the House of Representatives.
