Obasanjo joins advocacy for woman to lead Nigeria

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday in Abeokuta joined the call for a female President in Nigeria.

Obasanjo spoke at the Egba Dialect Debate and Choral Competition for Secondary Schools in Ogun Central District.

He said it was unfair that women were being relegated for the nation’s topmost job despite their contributions to society.

The former Head of State noted that power and key positions must be shared among both genders for fairness and equity.

Obasanjo told the audience that “a hand can’t carry a load to the head alone”, hence the need to give the womenfolk a chance to lead.

“A female can get pregnant for nine months, and a male can’t. That is the only difference between us.

“There is nothing preventing the female gender to be the president of our country,” the retired General added.

Ogun Deputy Governor, Naimot Salako-Oyedele charged more women to join politics to assert dominance since they have the numbers.

“We can’t give someone power, it has to be fought for. We have to start bringing females into politics,” she urged.
