NUJ tasks Gov Nwifuru, opposition parties on unity to enhance good governance

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Correspondents’ Chapel, Ebonyi State, has called on opposition parties and the state governor, Francis Nwifuru, to unite for the purpose of developing and enhancing good governance in the state.

The union made the call in a communiqué issued at the end of its congress on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, in Abakiliki, the capital of Ebonyi State.

The communiqué, signed by its chairman, Nwafor Samson, and secretary, Nabob Ogbonna, was forwarded on Thursday.

The NUJ applauded Governor Nwifuru for enthroning a youth government through the appointment of youths to sensitive political offices and charged the appointees to live up to the tasks entrusted to them.

The communique reads in part: “The Chapel applauds the Governor on the pedigree of individuals he has appointed to help him drive the policies and programmes of his administration, especially for giving 80% of his appointments so far to youths.

“The Chapel notes that now that the Governor has made the youths the leaders of today by fully integrating them into governance and making them the fulcrum of his administration, the youths, on their part, should endeavour not to disappoint by ensuring that they live up to the tasks entrusted to them.”

The union further commended the governor for his victory at the polls and successful swearing-in as the 4th Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, as well as for the appointment of two journalists, Monday Uzor and Boniface Nwankwo, as Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser, Documentation, respectively.
