There is yet no specific date yet for the kick-off of the 2022/23 Nigeria Professional Football League season, NPFL, according to Davidson Owumi, head of operations, Interim Management Committee (IMC).
Contrary to reports in some sections of the media that December 1 has been fixed for the kick-off of the new season, Owumi stated that the IMC will consult with the clubs in the days ahead to decide on the date while hinting that the committee will seek a date that is agreeable to the stakeholders.
“Our attention has been drawn to stories which are mere media speculations suggesting the league will commence on December 1,” Owumi said in a statement released by the IMC.
“This cannot be true as NPFL matches are traditionally not played on Thursdays and December 1 is Thursday. We have some dates in mind and will announce them after concluding consultations with the critical stakeholders”, Owumi concluded.
