Donald Trump calls 2026 World Cup ‘most successful’ in FIFA history

‎The 2026 FIFA World Cup has kicked off with unprecedented commercial momentum as United States President Donald Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino heavily praised the tournament’s record-breaking ticket sales.

‎The multi-nation tournament hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico has officially shattered all historical metrics.

‎Reports indicate that FIFA has already sold more than six million tickets for the expanded 48-team tournament, with initial ticket acquisition velocity moving at more than double the rate of any previous World Cup iteration.

‎Media outlets also highlight that total global registration and dynamic inquiries peaked at a staggering 500 million requests, putting the global football governing body on track to secure a historic thirteen billion dollars in total tournament revenue.

‎However, the massive commercial success has arrived alongside significant operational and economic scrutiny.

‎International news media have highlighted growing fan backlash regarding exorbitant secondary market prices, where premium match tickets have been listed for as high as thirty thousand dollars.

‎While FIFA officials have defended the pricing structure by pointing to a base tier of sixty-dollar entry tickets, local news reports indicate that strict border enforcement and political standoffs have caused additional strain.

‎Despite the implementation of a streamlined “FIFA PASS” program, media outlets have confirmed several visa denials affecting international fans, team coaching staffs, and even a high-profile match referee.

The tournament officially opens today in Mexico City, with extensive broadcasting networks bringing the action to global audiences.

‎For viewers tuning in from Nigeria, local broadcasting guides confirm that the opening match between Mexico and South Africa will air live at eight o’clock in the evening West Africa Time on both the free-to-air SportyTV platform and SuperSport via DStv Stream.

‎The tournament action continues into the early hours of June 12 with South Korea facing Czechia at three in the morning, followed by Canada taking on Bosnia and Herzegovina later that evening at eight o’clock.
