NPFL gives ultimatum to clubs on doping tests

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) board wants clubs to sensitise their players on the need to shun banned substances.

The NPFL announced on Monday that it is introducing random tests for players to curb the use of banned drugs.

The league body has already acquired testing kits from the United Kingdom to make the exercise a success.

According to the NPFL Chief Operating Officer, the clubs have already been notified and have been served with two weeks notice for the commencement of doping tests.

“There’s an ongoing training of personnel on the use of these doping test kits,” Owumi was quoted by the NPFL media

“So players have the next two weeks to detoxify themselves to get rid of any illicit substance in their system.

“Those who fail the tests will be subjected to the full applicable sanctions.”

The 2023/24 NPFL season started last weekend.

Matchday two games will be played this weekend.
