Not many of his kind around – Rangers warned against allowing Super Eagles star leave

Celtic legend, Simon Donnelly has warned Scottish giants, Rangers against allowing Nigeria international Joe Aribo to leave the club this summer.

Donnelly said the Europa League finalist would face a major challenge replacing the former Charlton Athletic star if they let him go.

Southampton are interested in signing the midfielder and he has already rejected the offer of a new contract from Rangers.

Donnelly believes Aribo’s loss would be a major blow to Rangers.

“He’s a player that can make things happen, that can go past an opponent and open things up with his ability,” he told talkSPORT.

Donnelly told the Go Radio Football Show. “There’s not many of those around.”

The Nigeria international began his club career at Staines Town and then moved to Charlton Athletic where he spent four years in the EFL.

The 25-year-old joined the Scottish Rangers in 2019, helping them to win the Scottish Premiership in 2021 and the Scottish Cup a year later.

The talented midfielder was born and raised in London.

Aribo played his first game for the Nigerian national team in 2019 and played a major role in the Super Eagles squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
