NLC strike records total compliance in Kwara

The two-day warning strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, throughout the country ended in Kwara State on Wednesday without any ugly incident recorded while it lasted.

In Ilorin, the state capital, government offices, banks and law courts remained under lock and key as labour leaders went underground.

According to reports, there was a total compliance in the state even though the state chairman of the NLC, Comrade Murtala Saeed Olayinka, could not be reached for his reaction to the strike action.

Recall that the state was shut down on Tuesday, as a result of the two-day warning strike action in compliance with the directive by the national body of the Nigeria Labour Congress for a-two-day warning strike over the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal government.

On Tuesday, some of the banks that did not join the action, however, later joined the strike action as they claimed that they did not receive the directive on the strike action from their respective head offices.

Chairman of the state Trade Union Congress, TUC, Comrade Tunde Joseph, confirmed that his union did not join the strike because “the national body is against the strike action.”

On his part, the Chairman of the National Union of Agriculture and Allied Employees, Comrade Kayode Ehindero, described the strike “as a success.”
