NITDA Drives Innovation with Stakeholders Engagement on Nigeria Startup Act in Plateau State

BY Anthony Ada Abraham

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), through its subsidiary, the Office for Nigerian Digital Innovation (ONDI), has taken bold strides to invigorate Nigeria’s startup ecosystem by organizing a Stakeholders Engagement programme on the Nigeria Startup Act (NSA) in Plateau State.

The initiative aims to raise awareness and provide critical education to startups, entrepreneurs, investors, and ecosystem stakeholders about the benefits and opportunities embedded within the NSA.

Speaking at the event, NITDA officials emphasized the programme’s goal of empowering stakeholders to harness the provisions of the Act, which was designed to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development. This aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes the advancement of technology and entrepreneurship as pillars of national development.

Participants at the event lauded the initiative as a transformative step toward fostering an enabling environment for startups to thrive. Entrepreneurs expressed enthusiasm about the prospects of leveraging the NSA to overcome challenges such as access to funding, regulatory hurdles, and market reach.

Advancing Nigeria’s Startup Ecosystem

The Nigeria Startup Act is a landmark legislation aimed at institutionalizing a framework to promote the growth of startups and innovation-driven enterprises in Nigeria. The Act offers numerous benefits, including tax incentives, access to government-backed startup funds, and streamlined business registration processes.

With Plateau State being a hub of emerging tech talent and entrepreneurial energy, the programme serves as a catalyst for unlocking the region’s potential in contributing to Nigeria’s digital economy.

This initiative further solidifies NITDA’s commitment to fostering an inclusive digital ecosystem, supporting the country’s youth, and building a sustainable foundation for technological innovation.

As Nigeria continues its journey toward becoming a global technology powerhouse, platforms such as the Stakeholders Engagement programme are critical in ensuring that startups and innovators are equipped to compete on a global stage.
