Nigeria a laughing stock – Pastor Giwa demands fresh presidential election

Pastor Adewale Giwa has joined the calls in some quarters for a fresh presidential election in Nigeria.

The head of Awaiting The Second Coming of Christ Ministry also called for a regional system of government to tackle peculiar challenges.

In a statement on Monday, Giwa said as Christians worldwide celebrate Christ’s resurrection, “Nigeria must rise from the dead and lead by example”.

The cleric charged the judiciary to “wake up” and perform its civic responsibilities in ensuring transparency, justice and truth.

Giwa alleged some judicial officers had become “a tool in the hands of the executive”, and advised them to move to the side of the people.

On the February 25 presidential election, the church leader said “even the blind can testify that it was organized in a fraudulent manner as usual”.

“I hope this time around, the judiciary will make history by ordering a fresh election that will determine the future of the country.

“Why can’t we stop making Nigeria a laughing stock? Why is it difficult for the electoral body to organize a transparent election?” he quipped.

The statement said a new presidential election will pacify “the good citizens who are angry with the conduct of the exercise”.

Giwa further stressed that an office holder not “duly and transparently elected” would not perform in office.

“Any leader elected in a fraudulent way cannot give the citizens a positive result. Nigerians must not fall in the hands of oppressors again for another eight years,” he added.
