Niger govt hosts induction retreat for executive council members

The Niger State Government has organised an induction retreat for members of the executive council, including commissioners, permanent secretaries, and political appointees.

The retreat, held under the theme, “Panacea for Sustainable Development of Niger State,” is part of the state’s New Niger Agenda aimed at transforming the region into a world-class sub-national government.

Representing Governor Muhammed Umaru Bago, Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba spoke about the administration’s commitment to impacting and developing the state, creating opportunities for employment and infrastructure development.

Garba stated that the induction serves to shape the future of Niger State, aligning with the administration’s goal of bringing about a green and eco-friendly subnational entity.

“The induction is to shape our future for an enduring legacy and prosperity,” he stated.

The Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Alhaji Abubakar Usman Gawu, urged executive council members to fully embrace the New Niger Agenda, stating that it positions the state to become one of the top 10 subnational governments in Nigeria.

Professor Muhammed Kuta Yahaya, the Lead Resource Person of the Retreat, underlined the strategic importance of including State Executive Council members, permanent secretaries, and political appointees in governance and leadership orientation, noting that Governor Muhammed Umaru Bago’s vision focuses on good governance and urban renewal development, GUD.

During the retreat, the Head of Service of Niger State, Abubakar Salisu, recommended the reactivation of the Strategic Operation Office to enhance efficiency in governance.

He encouraged the participants to provide diligent recommendations that would assist the government in carrying out its activities effectively.

Technical and brainstorming sessions marked the highlights of the retreat, which is scheduled to last from January 7th to January 13th, 2024.
