Niger CP urges NANS to shun violence in resolving issues 

The Niger State Commissioner of Police, Monday Bala Kuryas, has advised members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to always adopt dialogue in resolving issues and shun any act capable of resulting into violence.

The CP gave the advise during a visit by newly elected President of NANS, Com. Umar Faruk Lawal, and other executive members in his office in Minna.

He urged the students to concentrate more on their studies in order to graduate with flying colours towards securing good jobs.

Kuryas emphasized on the need to work together for a peaceful society while he expressed concern about the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, strike and rekindled hope in its end soonest.

The state police boss stated, “I urge you to utilise available scholarship schemes judiciously and should not abuse such privileges for the sake of others. We appreciate the support of the Government and students in fighting crime in the state”.

Lawal in his remarks said the association identified the CP as students’ friendly by his antecedents in attending to students matter, exhibited by receiving the association within a short notice without any prior letter.

The student leader acknowledged that the Police provided 95 percent security services during the just concluded NANS convention in Abuja which produced the new executives.

According to him, “we wish to establish more relationship with the Police, starting from Niger State Police Command. As an apex body of students’ representation, there is need for effective partnership between the Police and the students’ body for guidance, cooperation and protection of campuses”.

The students’ President then commended the effort of the CP and the Command in tackling banditry and other criminality in the state, while promising to support the Police with more information in addressing crime challenges.
