NGO donates food, cloths to flood victims in Kogi, calls for more assistance to pregnant women, children

A non Governmental Organization, (NGO), Association for Orphan and Vulnerable Children in Nigeria, (AONN), has called for immediate action to mitigate the effects of the recent Flood in kogi on women and vulnerable children in the various camps across the state.

Speaking during the presentation of relief materials to the internally Displaced Persons, (IDPs), at the St. Luke primary school Adankolo, the State coordinator of AONN, Henry Hellen, said women and Children constituted over 250 of the over 500,000 displaced person across Kogi

She called on government to step up its intervention to this vulnerable group of persons who she said have lost all their livelihood and are critical need of survival.

According to her, the children and the over 41 pregnant women at the Adankolo camp needs urgent medical attention, even as she commended the medical team at the camp for rendering medical services to the displaced persons.

The coordinator also commended the government for putting in place effective security measure at the camp, to ensure the safety of the people at the camp.

The Executive Directors of Idoko Foundation, Ateko Women and Girls Empowerment, Participation Initiative for Behavioral Change in Development, (PIBCID), Prince Onuche, Inikpi Adejoh and Remilekun Ibrahim, respectively, in their various speeches called on similar organizations and well to do individuals to come to the aide of the affected persons

They commended the orderliness at the IDP camp, particularly the leadership structure which made it easy for them to asses the items distributed to them.

Speaking on behalf of the IDPs, pastor Joseph Abeledi, who described the 2022 flood as the worst in history, commended AONN and its partners for coming to their aide.

They appealed to the government and other organizations for more assistance, saying that they are facing a major humanitarian crisis.

Items distributed to the displaced persons include; food stuff, consumables and clothes.
