The National Apex of Cashew Farmers, Processors & Marketing Cooperative Ltd., is set to host a 3-day National Cashew Cooperative Summit in Abuja, themed, “The Future of Cashew in Nigeria”.
The summit, scheduled for August 2025, aims to bring together stakeholders to discuss the future of cashew production, processing, and marketing in Nigeria.
According to the President of the cooperative, Yunusa Gabriel Enemali, “As the country’s cashew industry continues to grow, the summit provides a platform for experts to share knowledge, best practices, and innovative solutions to enhance the sector’s productivity and competitiveness.”
The organisers explained that the event’s theme highlights the importance of cashew in Nigeria’s agricultural sector, and the need for sustainable practices to ensure the industry’s long-term viability.
They emphasised the significance of the cashew industry to Nigeria’s economy in the saying “Come let’s discuss the future of Cashew in Nigeria. Cashew Matters, the Diamond from the Trees…”, an appeal that underscores the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing among stakeholders to drive the industry’s growth and development.
The summit according to them would provide an opportunity for participants to explore ways to promote sustainable, smart, and resilient agro-ecology for climate change mitigation. And by focusing on value chain addition, climate change mitigation, and sustainable farming practices, the event aims to contribute to a more sustainable future for Nigeria’s cashew industry.
The event is expected to bring together farmers, processors, marketers, and other stakeholders to discuss the industry’s challenges and opportunities, and to develop strategies for enhancing its competitiveness.
Recall that the National Apex of Cashew Farmers, Processors & Marketing Cooperative Ltd was incorporated on March 5, 2025, by the Federal Department of Cooperatives, Federal Ministry of Agriculture. The cooperative was registered under the Nigerian Cooperative Societies Act with the purpose of empowering farmers, improving product quality, and increasing market access.
By eliminating middlemen in the cashew industry and promoting fair trade practices, the cooperative aims to benefit farmers and streamline the supply chain. It also seeks to enhance the quality of cashew products to increase market access and competitiveness.
The cooperative plans to collaborate with government agencies, research institutions, and international organisations to access technical assistance, funding, and market opportunities.
