Leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Omupo Constituency of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State have appealed for calm among party members as the party awaits the official announcement of the results of the APC House of Assembly primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The constituency, which comprises the Omupo, Idofian, Ora, Igbaja and Agunjin districts, expressed confidence in the emergence of David Olarewaju as the aspirant who led in the primaries conducted across the constituency.
Speaking to journalists in Ilorin on Sunday on behalf of the stakeholders and supporters across the constituency, Abdul-Rahoof Bello commended the conduct of the primaries, describing the process as transparent, fair and credible.
He said, “The transparency and fairness of the process gave every aspirant equal opportunity and strengthened confidence in the party.
“Judging by these figures, no one should be left in doubt that Lawal Olanrewaju David has convincingly led other fellow contestants by a wide and comfortable margin.”
The constituents said the outcome reflected the wishes of party members and residents in the constituency, insisting that the democratic choice of the people should be respected by the party leadership at all levels.
They also appealed to party faithful to remain peaceful while awaiting the official declaration of the primaries by the APC leadership.
“As we await the official announcement of the results of Hon Lawal Olanrewaju David as the winner of the primaries, we call on all party members and supporters to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding.
“We urge our members to disregard any rumour of falsification or manipulation. Please remain confident that the party leadership is composed of people of integrity who would not want their banners to be stained,” the statement noted.
The constituents reaffirmed their confidence in David’s ability to represent the constituency effectively if elected into the state House of Assembly in 2027.
The state House of Assembly primaries, held on Wednesday, came hours after the party leadership reversed the mass disqualification and fully cleared all 159 contestants.
