Kolmani oil exploration not abandoned – Senator Buba

Lawmaker representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Umar Buba has addressed concerns over the alleged abandonment of the Kolmani Oil well on the Bauchi-Gombe States boundary.

Speaking in an interview with Journalists in Bauchi on Monday, the Senator assured that activities at the Kolmani oil wells would resume in February, emphasizing the complexity of the oil exploration project.

The All Progressives Congress, APC Senator explained that he initiated discussions with critical stakeholders, including NNPC’s Group Managing Director Mele Kyari and National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu over the project last year.

He further revealed that NNPC has now awarded a contract to an Indian firm, currently preparing to take over the projects.

“Kyari has assured us that by the grace of God within February, the activities at the Kolmani oil wells will resume fully because our meeting was held last October 2023. We are now keeping vigil and watching for the resumption. If February passes without them returning to the site InshaAllah we will bring up the issue at the Senate and also make it public.” He said

Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during his campaign in Gombe State in January last year promised that the recently-developed Kolmani oil wells in the state would receive adequate attention to ensure full commercial operation and benefits for the people.
