The Governing Council of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has commended the Rector, Professor Salihu Sanusi Avidime, for his innovative leadership, prudent management of resources and early achievements despite financial constraints.
The commendation was conveyed in a statement issued by the Acting Coordinator, Directorate of Public Relations and Protocol of the Polytechnic, John Amos Onimisi, following the council’s 74th regular meeting held on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the institution’s main campus.
Speaking at the meeting, the council chairman, Barrister Sani Shaibu, praised Avidime’s performance within his first few months in office, particularly his financial prudence and commitment to institutional development.
He also commended the management and staff for their support for the administration.
Shaibu stressed the importance of staff welfare, noting that sustained improvements in workers’ well-being were essential to boosting morale, productivity and overall institutional growth.
He urged council members to explore alternative sources of revenue through strategic partnerships with corporate organisations, government agencies and public-spirited individuals to strengthen the institution’s financial capacity.
The chairman reaffirmed the council’s commitment to supporting reforms aimed at improving the polytechnic’s academic standards, administrative efficiency and overall performance.
Earlier, Avidime outlined his administration’s priorities, which include improving operational efficiency, upgrading infrastructure, raising academic standards, expanding the institution’s visibility and enhancing the welfare of staff and students.
He said the management was identifying critical areas requiring urgent intervention and deploying practical solutions to position the institution for greater competitiveness and responsiveness to emerging educational needs.
The rector expressed appreciation to the council for its guidance and support, calling for sustained collaboration in directing available resources towards high-impact areas, particularly academic standards, accreditation requirements, staff welfare and the student experience.
He pledged to justify the council’s confidence through transparent leadership, prudent financial management and measurable results.
Other highlights of the meeting included the formal introduction of the polytechnic’s newly appointed principal officers to the council and the review of reports from its statutory committees.
