Kogi Guber; TAF Africa canvases inclusion of persons with disabilities

  • Code impressed with security, INEC arrangements, urges for transparent election.

TAF Africa has said that it was committed to ensuring that the interest of persons with disabilities are included in the electoral process.

The group added that if the assurances from INEC and security agencies is anything to go by, they are confident that their members will not have any challenge.

In a pre-election press conference, in Lokoja on Friday, the CEO/ Founder TAF Africa, and convener Disability inclusion Nigeria, said the group is deploying 30 observers in Kogi state to observe the election.

The Chief Executive of Connected Development (CODE), Hamzat Lawal said his organization has deployed over 20,000 volunteer observers to observed Saturday Governorship election.

According to him, their Situation Room meticulously verified 12,889 incident reports, providing a comprehensive overview of Nigeria’s electoral landscape.

He disclosed this on Friday during a stakeholders meeting in Lokoja.

He stressed that it is there commitment to replicate this rigorous monitoring process in tomorrow’s governorship elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa.

“Our on-the-ground assessments in Kogi State have revealed positive expectations among the populace.
The enthusiasm and readiness demonstrated by citizens to cast their votes are encouraging signs, marking a departure from the voter apathy witnessed in recent Nigerian elections.

“We acknowledge the increased presence of security personnel, indicating the government’s commitment to safeguarding citizens and their constitutional rights. We hope that this will contribute to a fair and unhindered electoral process, where voters can exercise their constitutional right without any form of fear or suppression on any grounds.

“While we remain vigilant in monitoring developments in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states, we maintain optimism about the forthcoming elections. It is evident that Nigerians, now more than ever, yearn for accountable leadership and active participation.

Also speaking The Chairperson Kogi NGOS Network (KONGONET Amb. Idris Ozovehe Muraina said INEC as the electoral management body, they have a crucial responsibility in ensuring the conduct of free, fair, credible and verifiable elections.

“I urge you to discharge your duties with unwavering integrity, transparency, and efficiency. Safeguard the sanctity of the electoral process by ensuring the prompt deployment of electoral materials, ppstrict adherence to your guidelines, and the effective management of the entire electoral process.

“Let us work together to build trust in the electoral system and ensure that the will of the people is respected.In conclusion, the peaceful conduct of the gubernatorial election in Kogi State rests upon our collective shoulders. As representatives of civil society organizations, security agencies, the media, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), we have a duty to uphold the democratic process and ensure the will of the people prevails.
