Kogi APC Peace Committee Seeks Audu’s Support to Reconcile Aggrieved Members

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Peace and Conflict Resolution Committee in Kogi State has sought the support of the Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, in its efforts to reconcile aggrieved members, bridge political divides and restore unity within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Statement by Lizzy Okoji,
Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Steel Development, which was made available to journalists in Lokoja, said
The 17-member committee, chaired by former Kogi State governor, Captain Idris Ichalla Wada, made the request on Wednesday when it paid a courtesy visit to the minister as part of its ongoing consultations with key stakeholders across the state.

Speaking during the visit, Deputy Chairman of the committee and former Deputy Governor of the state, Arc Yomi Awoniyi, said the committee, inaugurated on September 8, 2026, by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, had commenced engagements with stakeholders to identify the causes of internal disagreements and proffer practical solutions to strengthen the APC.

Awoniyi said the committee had received concerns relating to equitable distribution of infrastructure and empowerment programmes, appointments, candidates’ selection, political inclusion and perceived concentration of democratic dividends in some parts of the state.

He therefore sought the minister’s counsel and support in building bridges among the various political tendencies within the party and ensuring that aggrieved members were brought back into the fold.

Responding, Audu commended the committee for its initiative and pledged to continue contributing to the development of Kogi State at the Federal Executive Council, as well as supporting efforts to improve the political climate in the state.

The minister stressed that despite differences that might have arisen during the party’s primary elections, all stakeholders remained members of the same APC family, with the governor as the leader of the party in the state.

Audu urged party leaders and members to close ranks, respect decisions of the party hierarchy and place the collective interest of the APC above personal differences.

He said the immediate priority should be to unite the party and mobilise support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.

Also present at the meeting were former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Chief Edward Onoja; former Special Adviser to the late Governor Abubakar Audu on Media and Publicity, Mr Dan Okolo, and other members of the committee.
