Coach of Kaduna State cricket team, Joseph Onoja, says his team’s tour of Uganda will expose not only his players but also have a great impact on the national teams.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a 30-man team will depart via an Ethiopian Airlines flight on Saturday for the event which begins on Sunday.
Onoja told NAN in Abuja on Friday that his team, which boasts of a couple of national team players, would face a selected elite Ugandan side in a seven-match series.
“The tournament is aimed at exposing the players to elite competitions, with countries higher than Nigeria in the rankings. Since we have some national team players with us, the tour will improve their game.
“This is the third edition of the tour. Last year, we played against the Uganda’s under-19 team and won all five matches. We also did well in the previous year.
“This time, we hope to win all our matches and enjoy the experience as well,” the coach said.
He disclosed that the tour which is to end on May 26 was sponsored by the Kaduna State Government as part of its sports development programme.
Onoja disclosed that the 30-man team includes players, umpires, scorers, coaches and staff of the Kaduna State Ministry of Youths and Sports.
Onoja listed the players for the tour to include: Sylvester Okpe (Captain), Daniel Gim, Ademola Onikoyi, Danladi Isaac, Yusuf Gershon, Sesan Adedeji and Isaac Okpe.
Others are Onoja Godwin, Joel Tabat, Jimoh Abdulrahman, Uboh Ifeanyi, Thomas Haruna, Huzaifa Abdulsalam and Samson Simon.
