Jigawa women cry out over difficulties in accessing agric loans

Women in Jigawa State have raised the alarm over difficulties they encounter while trying to access agricultural loans in banks.

The women cried out over the development during the stakeholder’s introductory and validation meeting of the Propcom+ program in the state.

Hajia Aisha Ibrahim, Chairman of the Women Farmers Association, said women in the state find it difficult to access agricultural loans.

According to her, “The process and procedures of accessing the loans are so difficult that the women cannot fulfill them.”

She explained that a lot of women in the state are into farming but inability to access loans and other privileges is undermining their efforts to ensure food security in the country.

Country Representative, Dr. Adiya Ode, said Propcom+ is working with the Federal Government to increase the depth of investment in the agricultural sector by helping the vulnerable to build resilience and adapt to the effects of climate change.

“The program is set to support sustainable economic growth, improve climate resilience and incomes of smallholder farmers by addressing challenges in the country’s food and land-use systems.

“Some of the challenges include access to finance, climate change, and lack or limited modern technology to farmers,” she said.

Adiya said the intervention will provide other options to finance and leverage technology to boost the rural economy and improve food production.
