ISWAP Announces Presence in Kogi, Claims Responsibility For Adavi Police Station Attack

The Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists said they have established their presence in Kogi in Nigeria’s North Central region.

The Islamic terror group has claimed that it was responsible for Adavi Local Government Council Police Station attack that left three officers dead.

Adavi LGA is in Kogi Central Senatorial district.

In the early hours of Saturday, gunmen stormed Adavi LGA Police station and killed three Police officers on duty.

But in less than 24 hours after the attack that left Kogi State Police command investigating those responsible, the Voice of America had shared a telegram of ISWAP claiming responsibility for the attack, saying, “soldiers of the caliphate attacked a police station.

Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP, Edward Egbuka, had described the incident as a “surprise attack”.

ISWAP in their statement said, it was five people that were killed in the raid, contrary to three announced by Kogi Police.

Also in Taraba State, North Eastern Nigeria, ISWAP has announced the killing of six people in a market on Tuesday when a bomb exploded.

This is the first time the ISWAP would be having inroad into the North Central States, if Kogi in incidence was anything to go by as they have all these while been operating in the North East, particularly in Borno State.

The ISWAP fighters have been in rivalry with Boko Haram fighters who both have their bases in Sambisa forest, but ISWAP have lately been trying to spread their operations to North West down to Niger State in the North Central.

Their presence in Kogi State means that they have established their foothold in Central States.
