INEC Presents Voter register to Political Parties Ahead of Edo Guber Election

In preparation for the Edo State governorship election set for September 21, 2024, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) held a crucial meeting today, August 20, 2024, at its State Head Office.

The event was aimed at presenting the voter register to political parties and key stakeholders.

Prof. Rhoda Gumus, INEC National Commissioner responsible for overseeing Edo State, called on all political parties to uphold democratic principles and work closely with INEC to ensure a credible and transparent electoral process.

“Our commitment is to guarantee a free, fair, and transparent election. It is crucial that all stakeholders collaborate to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.

“Every vote matters, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that this election is conducted with the utmost transparency,” she stated.

On his part, Dr Anugbum Onuaha, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Edo State, outlined the efforts made by INEC to update and maintain a comprehensive voter register, ensuring it accurately reflects all eligible voters in the state.

He said: “We are dedicated to ensuring that the voter register is up-to-date and inclusive.

“Political parties are encouraged to engage constructively with us, and we are committed to addressing any concerns promptly to ensure a smooth electoral process.”

Also speaking, Mr. Tunde Gafar, Director of Voter Registry, provided a detailed presentation on the voter register.

He also discussed the implementation of new technology designed to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the election process.

“The new technology will help streamline the electoral process and ensure that the election is conducted in an efficient and reliable manner.

“Understanding the electorate better will assist political parties in their campaign strategies and ensure that all eligible voters are adequately represented,” he explained.

The meeting was attended by representatives from various political parties, election observers, and other stakeholders, all of whom expressed their commitment to supporting a peaceful and transparent election.
