Ahead of Saturday’s local government election in Kogi State, the Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Haruna Ibrahim, has appealed to the electorate to support his re-election bid to enable him consolidate his achievements in security, education, agriculture and infrastructure development.

Ibrahim made the appeal while distributing empowerment items worth millions of naira to beneficiaries at his country home in Ogidi, Ijumu LGA. He promised to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people if re-elected.

The chairman expressed appreciation to the people for their support since he assumed office, saying his administration had recorded significant progress in security, with Ijumu remaining one of the safest local government areas in Kogi State.

He attributed the security successes to the cooperation of residents, particularly their provision of credible and timely intelligence to security agencies, stressing that community participation remained critical to sustaining peace and stability.

Ibrahim described the empowerment programme as a gesture of appreciation for the love, trust and support the people had shown his administration, adding that it was part of his commitment to giving back to the people who entrusted him with their mandate.

He also commended the Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, for the confidence reposed in him to lead the local government, assuring that he valued the governor’s support and would continue to work towards advancing the development of the area.

The chairman urged residents to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

He also paid tribute to the leader of the local government, Hon. Funsho Olumoko; the Provost of Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa, Dr. Paul Femi Fashagba; and the Ijumu traditional institution, led by the Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom, Oba Williams Olusegun Ayeni, for their continued support.

He pledged not to disappoint them and other stakeholders who had stood by his administration.
Items distributed during the empowerment programme included motorcycles, grinding machines and refrigerators, while 200 widows received cash support.

Some women leaders of the APC who benefited from the motorcycle distribution expressed surprise at the gesture, describing it as a demonstration of democracy in action and a commitment to grassroots empowerment.
