Police in Kano State have arrested 18-year-old Aminu Kabiru over the alleged crushing of a man with his horse.

Spokesman of the state police command, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident in a statement issued.

He said the incident happened Sunday at about 6:30 pm in Gadon-Kaya Quarters while the victim was on his way home from the market.

He said the victim was identified as 20-year-old Abdulhadi Sammani from Sani-Mainagge.

Kiyawa said after receiving the report, police moved to the scene and rushed the victim to Murtala Muhammad Hospital for medical attention.

He said the victim later died while receiving treatment.

He said the suspect will be charged in court.

The Kano Emirate Council had earlier banned the unofficial horse riding known as Kilisa without receiving an order from authorities.

Many people have died and others injured due to the carelessness and recklessness of the horse riders in the Kano metropolis and its environs.
