Gunmen Abduct ex-commissioner in Delta state during church service, kill police orderly

Gunmen have abducted Delta’s former Commissioner for Technical Education, Joan Onyemaechi, in a church premises along DBS Road, Asaba, the state capital, during church service.

The Delta State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Edafe Bright, confirmed the incident.

He said the gunmen shot indiscriminately into the air before abducting her to an unknown destination, killing one of the two police officers attached to her while the other police officer was receiving treatment for a gunshot injury at a hospital.

Joan, who resigned from her position as the Commissioner for Technical Education a few months ago to pave the way for her brother to contest for the chairmanship of Aniocha South Council Area, represented Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives in 2015.

She also served as a lawmaker for Aniocha South at the Delta State House of Assembly from 2007 to 2015.
