GPMI calls for more support by stakeholders to help Nigerian Army in tackling terrorism

The global Peace Movement International, UK, has described the directive by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya to Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) to confront terrorists and insurgents and wipe them off the face of the earth and bring peace to countries in West Africa as a commendable statement of hope for the nation.

Yahaya gave the charge during the Battle Inoculation phase of Exercise Camp Highland, which wrapped up final exercises for Army cadets, before their passing out from NDA later in October.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, made this known in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.

He expressed satisfaction with the level of training received by the cadets, saying there has been remarkable improvement in the quality of their combat training due to recent review of the academy’s training curriculum.

The COAS said the combat training was in tune with the army’s deliberate capacity development effort towards tackling contemporary security challenges.

In a press release on Tuesday, the President General, Dr. Mike Uyi said this kind of statement shows commitment and patriotism on the side of the Nigerian Army.

“Nigerians should as a matter of urgency rally support for the Nigerian Army to end this scourge of insecurity in Nigeria”.

“The Army has in many occasions given everything humanly possible in the fight against insurgency and many other insecurity in the country, some of them have paid the supreme prize. The sacrifice of these galant men and women of the Army can’t be in vain.

“We wish to state that the invaluable efforts of our army in the country have been outstanding given the enormity of the task at hand. We salute their bravery and commitment to addressing these security concerns”.

“It must be stated that ending acts of terrorism and banditry does not rest on the shoulders of the army alone, but rather every stakeholder in Nigeria has a role to play in ensuring that Nigeria defeats terrorism, banditry and other acts of criminalities in the country.

“Global Peace Movement International, UK, therefore, calls on our political leaders, civil society organisations, religious leaders, traditional leaders, the media, the NGOs, and other critical stakeholders to lend their support to the Nigerian Military in addressing the various threats posed by criminals elements, their sponsors and collaborators”.
