Gov Otti Orders Rehabilitation of Late Aguiyi-Ironsi’s Alma Mater, Access Road

‎Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has directed the immediate rehabilitation of Ibeama Primary School in Ndume Otuka, Umuahia North Local Government Area, the alma mater of Nigeria’s first military Head of State, the late Gen. Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, as well as the access road leading to his ancestral home.

‎The governor issued the directive at the weekend during a civic reception organised in honour of the Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Austin Nmeregini, held at the school premises.

‎

‎Responding to appeals from community leaders, Otti instructed the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Otumchere Oti, to inspect the road linking the community to the late military leader’s residence and submit a report to facilitate its rehabilitation.

‎

‎He also directed the Chairman of the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) to immediately begin the process of restoring the historic primary school.

‎

‎“The first request is the road leading to General Ironsi’s house. I have directed the Commissioner for Works to inspect it and submit a report.

‎

‎“The second request concerns the school. We are carrying out rehabilitation of public schools across the state, and this school will not be excluded.

‎

‎“The ASUBEB Chairman should return here on Monday and commence the process of expediting its rehabilitation,” the governor said.

‎

‎Otti explained that the intervention is in line with his administration’s ongoing efforts to improve public school infrastructure across the 17 local government areas of Abia State.

‎

‎He expressed appreciation to the people of Ndume Otuka for their continued support and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering more infrastructure and development projects across the state.

‎The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, lawmakers and political stakeholders, including former senatorial candidate, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, and the member representing Isiala Ngwa North/Isiala Ngwa South Federal Constituency, Ginger Onwusibe.
