Foundation urges grieving parties to seek redress in court

A Non Governmental Organization, AID Foundation, has called on grieving parties who lost the just-concluded presidential/National Assembly elections to seek redress in court and shun hate and inciting speech.

The Executive Director of the foundation, Emmanuel Bonet, made the call in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday.

“Achieving peace at this moment will require that those announced as winners should be humble in their celebration of victory while those defeated should remain calm.

“Gather all the evidences and pursue the legal avenue to seek redress without engaging in any form of hate speech or other forms of inflammatory rhetoric.

“It is important to also remember that the outcome of the elections is not the end of the process, but rather the beginning of a new chapter in our nation’s history,” he said.

He urged Nigerians not to allow emotions get the better of them to the extent of violence or other forms of intimidation.

Bonet urged religious leaders to use their platform to speak against hate speech and violent conduct while reiterating the importance of peace and unity for the development of the country.
