President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been warned by the Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, over the possible release of records relating to him by the United States government.
Ayodele said the release of the documents could create serious political problems for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The cleric issued the warning on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, while speaking about the ongoing controversy surrounding records allegedly held by US agencies concerning the Nigerian president.
The matter has continued to attract attention in Nigeria as proceedings in a US court focus on requests for records connected to an old investigation involving Tinubu.
The records being sought have been linked to allegations of drug trafficking and related financial investigations.
However, the existence of records or an investigation does not by itself establish that Tinubu committed a crime.
The issue has also become politically sensitive ahead of the 2027 general election.
Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has been among those pushing for greater disclosure of the records.
Ayodele, in a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, said Tinubu should not underestimate the potential political consequences of the matter.
He claimed that powerful interests were behind the push for the documents and warned that their release could affect Tinubu’s bid for another term in office.
“If those documents come out, it will end Tinubu’s second term because the power behind it is heavy. Tinubu is just playing around it; people working to stop it are only deceiving him.”
The cleric further claimed that the President might not fully understand the extent of the issue because of the advice he was receiving from those around him.
According to Ayodele, the United States remains one of the major challenges that could confront the Tinubu administration as the 2027 election approaches.
He said the matter could become more serious if American authorities decide to make additional records public.
“If America is ready, they will release it, and that’s why I said America is one of Tinubu’s problems. The documents are there, and there are plans to release them.”
Ayodele also linked the possible disclosure of the records to the political atmosphere surrounding the 2027 election.
“If this document comes out, an interim government is imminent, and there will be a serious effect on the election,” he added.
Recall that on July, Primate Ayodele raised another warning concerning Tinubu’s relationship with the United States and the 2027 presidential election.
In remarks contained in the 32nd edition of his annual prophecy publication, Warnings to the Nations, Ayodele claimed that the United States could mount pressure on the Tinubu administration ahead of the election.
The cleric specifically mentioned documents which he said could be used against the President.
“Tinubu will be frustrated by the United States of America government. I foresee there are lots of documents they want to use against Tinubu.”
The warning was made as Ayodele presented the 405-page edition of his publication during a press conference in Lagos.
He also predicted that American officials could engage with officials of Nigeria’s electoral commission and claimed that such developments could create difficulties for the President.
