FJSC Appoints Yahaya Shafa as Acting Chief Registrar of Federal High Court

The Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) has approved the appointment of Yahaya Yakubu Shafa, FCArb, as the Acting Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, with effect from February 17, 2026.

The decision was taken at the Commission’s 98th meeting held on January 22, 2026.
Shafa’s appointment follows the elevation of the outgoing Chief Registrar, Sulaiman Amida Hassan, to the Bench of the Federal High Court.

The transition, according to a statement issued by the court’s management, is in line with efforts to ensure continuity, efficiency and stability in the court’s administrative leadership.

A seasoned judicial administrator and legal practitioner, Shafa brings over 18 years of progressive experience in the justice sector to his new role. Before his appointment, he served as Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Judicial Service Commission, where he played a key role in judicial administration, policy coordination and institutional development.

The court expressed confidence that his wealth of experience in court administration, legal practice and institutional reform would further strengthen the administrative machinery of the Federal High Court and enhance efficient justice delivery.

The management and staff of the Federal High Court congratulated Hassan on his elevation to the Bench and extended their best wishes to Shafa for a successful tenure in his new position.

The statement was signed by Catherine Oby Christopher, PhD, Director of Information, Federal High Court of Nigeria.
