Experts seek enabling environment for tech advancement in Akwa Ibom

Tech community in Akwa Ibom State has urged the state government to provide more enabling environments, such as power and internet connectivity, so as to facilitate their attempt in making the state Africa’s new tech destination.

President of the Ibom Innovation Network, Hanson Johnson, made the appeal in his welcome address during the Akwa Ibom Tech Week 2023 with the theme: “Africa’s New Tech Destination,” held at Ikot Ekpene.

Johnson, who harped on the need for investment in the tech ecosystem in the state, urged the government and the people to rally behind innovators to meet up with the emerging global technological trend.

He said, “We call upon the Akwa Ibom Government to continue this journey with us, investing in our dream to become Africa’s new tech destination.

“The peace that our state enjoys is a testament to our government’s unwavering dedication to ensuring a secure and conducive atmosphere for tech enthusiasts. The cost of living here is friendly and provides a unique advantage in building and growing tech startups.”

On his part, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Brand Management and Marketing, Mr Raphael Edem, noted that tech hubs in the state are doing exploits.

Edem, who spoke on “Branding and Marketing Akwa Ibom State as an emerging tech destination in Africa,” urged the tech community to ensure a continuous dialogue and partnership with the state government for the development of the sector.
