Electoral Act Amendment: ‘Akpabio is the problem, Tinubu lapdog’ — El-Rufa

‎Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has launched a scathing attack on Senate President Godswill Akpabio, accusing him of being the real obstacle behind the ongoing controversy surrounding the proposed amendment to the Electoral Act.

‎While speaking in an interview on Trust Tv, El-Rufai dismissed claims that the Senate as an institution is responsible for the contentious move, insisting that the problem lies squarely with Akpabio’s leadership.

‎“It is not the Senate that is the problem here. Akpabio is the problem,” El-Rufai said, adding: “By every definition, he is a scumbag.”

‎The former governor further alleged that the Senate President is acting on behalf of powerful political interests, describing him as nothing more than a “lapdog” to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (Asiwaju).

‎According to El-Rufai, senators who oppose the amendment must unite and openly resist it when the National Assembly reconvenes.

‎“The senators will have to come together, protest, and prevent that from happening,” he stated.

‎El-Rufai also rejected the distinguished title often attached to members of the upper chamber, saying his long-standing personal history with Akpabio strips him of any such formalities.

‎“I don’t consider him ‘distinguished.’ We’ve known each other since the 1990s. I’ve seen how far we’ve come, so I am qualified to call him what he is,” he stated.
