El-Rufai warns ADC youth group against attributing false statements to him

Former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai has warned a political support group, ADC Vanguard, against fabricating statements and attributing them to him.

In a post on his official X handle on Thursday, El-Rufai said he would disown such remarks, stressing that while he has platforms to air his views, he never made the comments being circulated.

His words: โ€œDear ADC Vanguard, please stop fabricating statements and attributing them to me. I have my own social media accounts where I can share my views and opinions.

โ€œI am going to disown the statements you created and attributed, not because I necessarily disagree with the message, but because I never made them. That is not the honest way to represent our party or gain traction. Please stop it forthwith.โ€

His reaction followed a now-deleted post by ADC Vanguard, which had quoted him as describing President Bola Tinubuโ€™s administration as โ€œNigeriaโ€™s most corrupt and dishonest governmentโ€ that had mastered โ€œthe act of looting shamelessly while deceiving confidently.โ€

The group later issued an apology, acknowledging its misstep.

Dear Mallam El-Rufai, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused. It was never our intention to misrepresent or attribute statements to you.

โ€œWe respect your voice and your platforms as the proper channels for your views,โ€ ADC Vanguard said.

The group added that it would, going forward, rely only on verified and authentic sources in its communications, while appreciating El-Rufai for pointing out the issue โ€œclearly and respectfully.โ€
