El-Rufai Did Not Have Nose Bleed in Our Custody – ICPC Debunks Claim

‎The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has denied reports that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, suffered a medical emergency while being held by the agency.

‎The commission said the claim was false and misleading.

‎It reacted to an earlier statement from El-Rufai’s media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, who alleged that the former governor had a nosebleed during detention.

‎ICPC spokesman, Okor Odey, dismissed the report in clear terms.

‎He said, “The allegation that he bled from his nose yesterday while in the custody of the ICPC is not true.”

‎El-Rufai has remained in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission since February 18.

‎Before that, he spent two nights with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission after his initial arrest.

‎Adekeye had also questioned the legality of El-Rufai’s continued detention.

‎He claimed that no court order had been shown to justify holding him beyond 48 hours without charges.

‎The spokesman further alleged that access to El-Rufai had been restricted.

‎He said lawyers and family members were finding it difficult to see him regularly.

‎According to the statement, one of El-Rufai’s wives was not allowed to hand food to him directly.

‎She was reportedly instructed to pass the meal through an ICPC officer.

‎Adekeye also repeated that El-Rufai developed a nosebleed overnight while in custody.

‎The ICPC, however, insisted that no such incident occurred and that the former governor was in stable condition.

‎Both the ICPC and EFCC are currently investigating El-Rufai over alleged financial impropriety linked to his time as Kaduna State governor between 2015 and 2023.

‎The agencies say the probe is part of broader efforts to ensure accountability in public office.

‎They have not yet disclosed specific charges or a timeline for possible arraignment.
