Nigerian award-winning hip-hop singer, David Adeleke has described the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as Nigeria’s most dangerous institution.
In a series of posts made on X on Saturday, September 21, the music artiste in a face-off with the police discouraged voters from leaving their polling units after casting their votes.
Adeleke whose stage name is Davido had reacted to a video where Deputy Inspector General of Police Frank Mba had urged voters to go home once they cast their votes in the ongoing Edo governorship election.
Mba in an interview with Channels TV announced a restriction on vehicular movement from 6 a.m. to 6 pm on Saturday.
He also saw aid, “If you’re not accredited to participate in the election, you shouldn’t be out on the streets. Cast your vote and return home; it’s your civic duty.”
Reacting to this, Davido wrote on X, “Loooooooool, go where???”
To this response, the police spokesperson in Delta Statw, Bright Edafe urged the singer always to set an example.
Edafe said, “Celeb like you should set a good example. Try dey calm down @davido.”
Further posting on his handle, Davido said he is passionate about the outcome of the elections in Edo because his late mother hailed from the stage.
He also recalled that in the 2022 governorship election in Osun State, it took multiple efforts including outcry from well-wishers and Nigeria for an improved electoral process under the watch of INEC.
He said, “My mom is from Edo for those wondering why I’m interested in the election … but we as Nigerians should be concerned sha… @inecnigeria shame on you.
“I know how many times I had to come in here and rant before they got it right in Osun! It’s really bad. God help us,” the singer posted.
