D’Tigress win 5th consecutive Afrobasket title

Nigeria women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have become the first team to win the FIBA women’s AfroBasket five times in a row after defeating Mali on Sunday.

D’Tigress also booked an automatic ticket for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Berlin, Germany.

The Nigerian team won 78-64 in a hotly-contested game in at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

Recall that D’Tigress advanced into the final of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket with a 75-68 Victor over Senegal on Saturday.

It was a clash of titans, with the Malian team edging the tightly contested first quarter, 26–21.

Nigeria clawed their way back into the game, leveling the score at 41-41 by halftime.

D’Tigress came alive in the third quarter, finally asserting their dominance and showcasing their superior quality. By the end of the period, Nigeria led 61-56.

The final quarter followed a similar rhythm, with D’Tigress tightening their defense and restricting Mali to just eight points. Nigeria sealed a commanding 14-point victory.

With this win, D’Tigress have now claimed seven Women’s Afrobasket titles and remain unbeaten in the competition for over a decade.
