Don’t betray confidence reposed in you – Gov Buni to new Yobe commissioners

Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, on Saturday, tasked members of the State Executive Council not to betray the confidence reposed in them by the people of the state.

Buni, in a statement by Press Secretary to the Acting Secretary to the State Government, Shuaibu Abdullahi, gave the charge at the opening ceremony of a two-day retreat organised in Kano for members of the Council.

The Governor noted that the retreat is coming barely a week after their inauguration, hence indicating the determination of his administration to form a team capable of addressing the developmental challenges of the state.

“We should be more innovative and adaptive to modern ideas for effectiveness and efficiency in the discharge of our individual and collective responsibilities”, he admonished.

According to him, the government intends to foster inter-ministerial coordination and collaboration in implementing the 11-point agenda set by his administration.

He enumerated the achievements of his administration in the areas of security, education, health, agriculture, commerce, housing and rural infrastructure, among others.

Governor Buni stated that the eleven-point agenda had been developed to guide the implementation of policies and programmes that would propel the development of the state and the country.

“All the above cannot be achieved without reorienting our people to be industrious and sensitizing them to key into our programmes.

“The guiding principle in the execution of all policies and programmes would remain adherence to due process”, he said.

He expressed optimism that the retreat would inculcate in the new Executive Council members financial discipline as required by the law.

“As public office holders, we should maintain observance of prudence, transparency, probity, and accountability”, he advised.

In his remarks, Acting Secretary to the state government, Baba Malam Wali, said the theme of the retreat, which is: “Repositioning Yobe to be the Pride of the Nation”, was apt.

He added that the objective of the retreat was to prepare the new members of the State Executive Council on what is expected of them.

Wali commended the state government for the initiative and expressed the hope that the exercise would produce the desired result.
