A strategic meeting of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) was held on Friday, November 6, 2026, in Asaba, Delta State, under the leadership of the party’s National Chairman, Barr. Samuel M. Memeh.
The meeting brought together party executives, candidates and other key stakeholders to deliberate on the growth, unity and strategic direction of the party ahead of forthcoming political activities in Delta State.
In his address, the National Chairman called for unity, cooperation and mutual understanding among party members. He urged all aspirants to demonstrate courage, strengthen their grassroots connections and intensify engagement with the people, emphasising that the party’s growth depends on collective commitment and active participation at all levels.
Also speaking at the meeting, the DLA governorship candidate, Hon. Gavin Omoidonor Freeborn, commended the National Chairman for his efforts and contributions towards building and strengthening the party.
Hon. Gavin further introduced two major pressure groups, Youth O’Clock and Gavino Movement, to the party leadership, highlighting their importance to the party’s expansion, mobilisation and inclusive political structure.
The National Chairman and other party leaders welcomed the groups and assured them of their readiness to work together. They also expressed their commitment to integrating members of the groups into the existing party structure to promote inclusiveness and broader participation.
In his remarks, Hon. Gavin called on young people to embrace leadership responsibilities and prepare themselves to participate actively in shaping the political future of Delta State. He stressed that leadership and political relevance require courage, commitment, organisation and responsibility.
He further observed that political power is not simply handed over but must be pursued through legitimate democratic participation, active engagement and the people’s mandate.
However, Hon. Gavin made it clear that the struggle for political leadership must never involve violence, intimidation or lawlessness but must be pursued through constitutional and democratic means.
On campaign conduct, Hon. Gavin strongly advocated peaceful and issue-based political engagement. He stated that he did not support abusive campaigns, personal attacks or the unnecessary disparagement of political opponents.
According to him, political campaigns should focus on ideas, vision, policies, development and the future of the people rather than insults and hostility.
He emphasised that anyone engaging in political advocacy or promoting his candidacy and the Democratic Leadership Alliance must do so with maturity, respect, discipline and a sense of responsibility.
The meeting further reinforced the importance of unity, strategic collaboration, grassroots mobilisation and the inclusion of diverse groups in building a stronger political platform.
As the Democratic Leadership Alliance continues to strengthen its structures and expand its reach across Delta State and Nigeria, members, stakeholders, pressure groups and supporters were encouraged to work together in an atmosphere of mutual respect, discipline and democratic commitment.
The meeting concluded with a renewed call for the development of a political culture founded on unity, inclusion, peaceful participation and the collective aspiration for a better Nigeria.
