The seat of the now deputy governor of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa has been declared vacant.
Idahosa’s seat was declared vacant by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
Idahosa who represented Ovia Federal constituency in the House, was elected deputy governor of Edo State alongside the governor Monday Okpebholo in the September 21 governorship election.
Both the governor and his deputy were sworn into their respective offices on November 12.
However, the House leader, Julius Ihonvbere in a letter read on the floor of the House by the speaker called for the declaration of Idahosa’s seat vacant.
Ihonvbere also urged the House to commence the process of electing a replacement for the lawmaker who is now a deputy governor.
The declaration of Idahosa’s seat vacant brings the number of vacant seats on the House to four.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will be expected to conduct a fresh election for these vacant seats.
