Cult battle resurges in Ogun as suspected leader, one other killed in Abeokuta

Residents of Abeokuta are currently in fear as cult superiority battles seem to have returned to Ogun State.

A rival cult group shot dead a suspected leader of the Eiye confraternity identified simply as Dare, popularly known as Oloba.

It will be recalled that cultism topped the list of vices which held the state to ransom in 2023 with bodies being picked at different areas of the state with attention on Sagamu and Abeokuta.

Oloba was shot dead by the assailants in the Ijeja area of Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State in front of his house.

A police source hinted that he was killed on Thursday while another suspected cultist popularly called Tayo Alora was also murdered in the Isabo area of the state capital on Sunday morning.

A resident, who did not want his name in print, said Tayo must have been trailed to the point where he was gunned down.

“They must have trailed him here but they really didn’t engage in any disagreement or fight before he was shot. This is really scary, the government should quickly rise up to this before things get out of hand again.

“This is how they always start, the police and other security agencies should please start their work immediately,” he said.

Eyewitnesses who took to their heels when the assailants were shooting into the air spoke with DAILY POST on the condition of anonymity, noting that Oloba’s killers “executed him in a well planned operation around 11:00 pm on Thursday.”

Reacting to the ugly development, spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the development.

She added that the police have commenced a discrete investigation into the matter, vowing that culprits involved in the incident will all be arrested.

She promised to call this reporter back for more information on the killings but is yet to.

“On that of Ijeja, we have heard and we are on it. I also have the report of Isabo but I will have to call back to give a fuller information,” she said.
