CP Effiong-Okon takes over in Rivers, calls for synergy among stakeholders

The new commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Okon Effiong-Okon has called for maximum collaboration from stakeholders in ensuring a conducive environment for business and other activities for Rivers people.

The CP made the call during his maiden press briefing at the police headquarters in Port Harcourt on Wednesday after taking over from the former CP, Friday Eboka, who has been promoted as an Assistant Inspector General of police.

Effiong-Okon also solicited for a more robust synergy with sister agencies, especially on the areas of “information sharing and intelligent gathering” which he said are “important tools in the fight against criminality”.

The 42nd commissioner of Police in Rivers State also acknowledged that the government has “invested” so much in security, assuring that the command under his watch will make sure that the funds invested are not wasted.

The CP, while assuring of a more “proactive system of policing”, warned those who do not want Rivers people to have peace to steer clear or be ready to face the law.

Speaking on the forthcoming general elections in the State, CP Effiong-Okon warned that “thurgery” and other forms of electoral violence will “not be allowed during the election.

The CP further urged parents and guardians to ensure that their children and wards “do not allow themselves to be used as thugs or be ready for a war from the police.”

He also promised to deploy patrol teams across the State, while assuring the protection of human rights.
