Cleric begs govt to rehabilitate flood victims

A body of priests and vicars under the aegis of Universal Assembly of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star Priests (UABCSP) has called on the federal government to assist clergymen and other Nigerians hit by the ravaging flood that has submerged churches, destroyed their homes and farmlands.

Over the last two weeks, many water bodies have overflowed their banks, causing extensive deaths, other damages in parts of the country and. hampering movements.

In a statement released Tuesday morning and signed by its chairman, Her Eminence Glory Mike Ntuk, the group said their members serving in States like Bayelsa, Kogi, Nasarawa, Anambra, Rivers States, among others, have lost their churches, personal properties and are left despondent.

Parts of the statement read: “On behalf of the governing board of UABCSP, we want to extend our heartfelt condolences to as many States and communities, particularly our members who continue to reel under floods across the whole federation.

“We empathise with our Priests, especially those assigned to stations, in the affected States, communities, towns and villages, many of whom have lost dear relatives. Others have suffered extensive damages on their valuable property, crops and farm lands.

“We express our concerns over the hardship being suffered by Nigeriians due to this natural calamity.

“We patiently pray for the federal government’s intervention. We appeal to the government to take appropriate actions to assuage the suffering of our priests and other citizens. Many of them need complete rehabilitation.”

The body of priests expresses fervent hope that the almighty will continue to protect and provide for His children in all the affected States.
